Citizens Academy

Sign up for the Cassia County Citizen's Academy

Cassia County Sheriff’s Office sponsors a citizen’s academy two times a year, in the spring and fall.  Citizens of the Minidoka and Cassia counties are invited to attend class on Wednesday nights for two hours and receive information about what police officers do on duty and what they may see.  It is very informative to the public.  Some of the topics are drug identification, K-9 deployment, DUI investigations, marine deputy patrol and gang identification just to name a few.  The class runs for 11 weeks and it is free of charge.  Citizens have a chance to do a ride along with patrol deputies in their patrol car and to observe dispatchers while they do their job.  There is, also, one Saturday class where citizens go to the department shooting range and have an opportunity to shoot department issued weapons, including SWAT weapons, under the guidance of a trained department range master.  At the end of the class, there is a graduation where citizens that have attended the classes receive a certificate of completion and a shirt.  It is a wonderful way for the public to become more informed on their local officers and department and become more informed on what is really happening in their community.  To find out more information or if you are interested in applying to attend the next academy, you can contact the citizen’s academy coordinator, Cpl. Terry Bell at 208-878-2251.
